Installation
In order to install your RoofBunk, you'll first need roof bars or a roof rack to attach it to. We recommend using Halfords to find them.
If you type the number plate of your vehicle, it should bring up a number of options for you to decide between!
Make sure the roof bars are rated to hold at least 60kg for the Roamer, 50kg for the Explorer, 65kg for the Explorer XL and 80kg for the Adventurer. Pick ones that are ideally through bars in design too, as these allow more overhang on the sides and all our models will definitely fit these types of roof bars.
Once you've got your roof bars or roof rack sorted, please feel free to follow our installation guide video to help you get it installed and ready to go!: How To Install Your RoofBunk Roamer Hard Shell Roof Tent and How To Install Your RoofBunk Explorer Soft Shell Roof Tent (the Explorer XL is the same process). The Adventurer installation video is coming soon!
You'll also need to check your vehicle’s maximum roof load capacity is over 60kg for the Roamer, 50kg for the Explorer (even though the vast majority of vehicles are), 65kg for the Explorer XL and 80kg for the Adventurer, which can be found in your vehicle’s user manual or after searching for the information online. We recommend checking this Online Vehicle User Manual Directory
If all this sounds daunting, then please email over your vehicle's number plate and we'll be happy to do the research for you!
All RoofBunks should be able to fit any vehicle as long as you're able to keep the roof bars between 70cm-120cm apart for the Roamer, 40cm-120cm for the Explorer, 60cm-140cm for the Explorer XL and 70cm-120cm for the Adventurer, as this will sufficiently spread the load weight evenly.

If all this sounds daunting, then please email over your vehicle's number plate and we'll be happy to do the research for you!
The fitting brackets that come with your RoofBunk should be able to fit roof bars and roof racks with bars as thick/tall as 5cm and as wide as 12cm for the Roamer, 5cm thick and 10cm wide for the Explorer/Explorer XL and 5cm thick and 15cm wide for the Adventurer, so any roof bars under this should work great!
In the rare circumstances that your bars are thicker/taller than 5cm, then we'll be happy to recommend some inexpensive 8cm M8 screws to you, so you can install it.
Plus, if you need wider brackets, then you could order the Roamer or Adventurer brackets separately for example, as all of the brackets are compatible with each other!
You'll also need to make sure your roof bars/roof rack is rated to hold at least 60kg for the Roamer, 50kg for the Explorer, 65kg for the Explorer XL and 80kg for the Adventurer. The reason this may be a lower number than you might expect is because the manufacturers list the dynamic holding weight limit (moving), rather than the static holding weight limit (stationary/still), which affects how much weight they can hold. To give you a rough idea, the static holding weight limits for most of them are around 5-8 times what the dynamic holding weight limits are (depending on the speed, wind and other forces acting on the roof tent when it's moving). So in this case, roof bars with a weight limit of 65kg should be able to hold at least 350kg worth of weight!
We suggest getting roof bars that are ideally through bars in design too, as these allow more overhang on the sides and all our models will definitely fit these types of roof bars.
If you're struggling to know where to start finding your roof bars or a roof rack, we recommend using Halfords and entering your reg number plate to help you find the right ones for your particular vehicle.

Yes, this should be a high enough capacity to hold your RoofBunk with you inside. In the very rare circumstances that you have roof bars or a roof rack that is so low lying that you can’t get underneath the bars to install your RoofBunk, you can install it onto your roof bars/rack on the ground and off your vehicle, then attach your roof bars/rack onto your vehicle after you already have the RoofBunk attached onto them.

Yes, we can arrange to send you replacement parts for all your RoofBunks, such as an extra ladder, door porch poles, shoe storage bags or fitting accessories if it's still under warranty.
There will be a charge for these if you would like them in addition to what is already included with your RoofBunk or if the warranty has expired.
You can find some of these extra/replacement parts in our store, but if not, then please ask and we'll almost certainly have them available for you!
Yes, the unique blend of polyurethane we apply to all your RoofBunk’s high quality 320gsm material gives them a waterproof rating of 3000mm. This makes them 3 times as waterproof as a regular ground tent and are able to handle even the worst rain storms with no problem.
The Explorer/Explorer XL models also have a rainfly, which can handle even more water at 5000mm, then the ABS and aluminium shell of the Roamer and Adventurer models have pretty much no limit with how much water they can take, but all models should comfortably handle anything you throw at them!
All models also have high quality waterproof zips that we’ve used to prevent leaks and should last for years without breaking and the seams are sealed with waterproof silicone tape.
RoofBunk Roamer:
The maximum weight you can put on top of your RoofBunk Roamer and consistently open/close it is 7kg.
If you are getting close to this limit, please avoid putting any items in the storage cargo net on the roof inside the RoofBunk.
We also recommend for you to fully open the windows and doors when opening/closing it and help it up when opening it by pushing it up gently.
All of these should ensure there's as little stress as possible on the gas struts!
RoofBunk Adventurer:
This model is designed to have far more weight on it, which is why it comes with roof bars!
The weight limit for when it's open is around 50kg and 80kg when it's closed.
RoofBunk Roamer:
Yes, your RoofBunk Roamer will be completely weatherproof!
It has our high quality 320gsm poly-cotton blend ripstop canvas material on it’s walls, which will keep you nice and warm.
It can comfortably handle winds of up to 40mph when opened and the unique blend of polyurethane we apply to it gives it a waterproof rating of 3000mm. This makes it 3 times as waterproof as a regular ground tent and able to handle even the worst rain storms with no problem!
The high quality waterproof zips that we’ve used should also prevent leaks and last for years without breaking and the seams are sealed with waterproof silicone tape.
The combination of our thick canvas material and the structure of your RoofBunk makes it both quieter and warmer in cold and stormy conditions, meaning a better night’s sleep for you whatever the weather!
The material has been treated with agents to make it UV resistant, so it should be protected from being faded by the sun too.
We've also made sure the material used on our tent is breathable to prevent condensation and dampness as much as possible.
The shell is made of our high quality ABS material, making it very unlikely to shatter on impact compared to fibreglass alternatives.
It’s designed to be strong, but also light enough to make it easier to lift and install on your car roof.
It will keep you warm at night due to the shell leaking less heat than canvas material alternatives and the low aerodynamic design of the shell also means there’s both less noise while driving and will save you money on fuel too!

Yes, the RoofBunk Explorer/Explorer XL have our high quality 320gsm poly-cotton blend ripstop canvas material on the body of the tents and 600D Oxford polyester on the rainflies, making them completely weatherproof.
They can comfortably handle winds of up to 40mph (Gale Force 8) when opened and the unique blend of polyurethane we apply to them gives them a waterproof rating of 3000mm on the body and 5000mm on the rainfly. This makes them 3-5 times as waterproof as a regular ground tent and are able to handle even the worst rain storms with no problem!

Plus, our travel covers are made of 1200D/680g heavy duty PVC, so they will be very durable and have a high quality zip to ensure no water seeps in on wet days.
The roof tents have a 25mm aluminium frame to keep them both strong and light at 50kg (110lb) for the Explorer and 65kg (143lb) for the Explorer XL, making them easier to lift on and off your car.
The windows are also curved to help it handle higher winds and the canopy is too in order to reduce pooling.

Your bank may be rejecting the payment because it's quite a large purchase, so they might suspect it's not you buying it.
Our advice would be to call up your bank to confirm that it is you trying to make the payment, so they know it's not fraudulent and then they should hopefully let the transaction go through. You also may have had a security code texted to you, which you'll need to input on your bank in order for it to process!
If this doesn't work, then you could try and pay via PayPal instead if possible because this shouldn't directly involve your bank!
You also have the option of paying via cash or bank transfer if none of these other methods suit you. Please contact us before if you're wanting to pay with one of these methods though and we'll send over our details!
If PayPal Credit have a limit on how much credit you can get, then we'll be happy to arrange a split payment option, where you pay part of the amount using PayPal Credit and the remaining balance by either cash or bank transfer. Please contact us before if this is what you'd like to do though and we'll send over our details!
If your total order value is over £2,000 and you want to pay with PayPal Pay In 3, then we'll be happy to arrange a split payment option, where you pay part of the amount using PayPal Pay In 3 and the remaining balance by either cash or bank transfer. Please contact us before if this is what you'd like to do though and we'll send over our details!
